More Than Just a Back Adjustment: The Training Behind Chiropractic Care

Meet Dr. Carson Gee, Chiropractor at BacknMotion

When you think of a chiropractor, you might picture someone helping with back or neck pain. But did you know that becoming a chiropractor involves years of university education and extensive training in how the body works?

At BacknMotion, Dr. Carson Gee brings his chiropractic education and knowledge of the human body to help patients understand their concerns and work toward their personal health goals.

How Much Training Does a Chiropractor Receive?

In Canada, becoming a chiropractor typically involves at least three years of undergraduate university education, followed by a four-year Doctor of Chiropractic program at an accredited institution. Some chiropractors complete a full undergraduate degree before entering their professional program.

Dr. Carson completed his Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics at the University of Guelph in 2016 before earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree with honors from New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) in 2019.

His education provided a strong foundation in human movement, anatomy, the nervous system and the way different parts of the body work together.

Understanding More Than the Spine

A chiropractor’s training extends well beyond back and neck adjustments. It includes learning about:

  • Muscles, bones and joints: How the body is built and how its parts work together.
  • Movement and posture: How everyday activities and movement patterns can affect comfort and function.
  • The nervous system: How the brain, spinal cord and nerves communicate throughout the body.
  • Assessment and recognizing warning signs: How to evaluate a patient’s concerns and identify when further medical assessment or referral may be needed.
  • Treatment approaches: How to select appropriate techniques and provide advice suited to a patient’s individual needs.

Chiropractic education also includes supervised clinical training, helping prepare chiropractors to assess patients and develop appropriate care plans.

How Can This Knowledge Help You?

Discomfort in one area of the body can sometimes be influenced by movement, posture or the way other areas are functioning. A chiropractor’s understanding of the body helps them look at the bigger picture rather than focusing only on where you feel pain.

Dr. Carson works with patients experiencing concerns such as back and neck discomfort, headaches, joint pain, sprains, strains and mobility challenges. Depending on your needs, care may include hands-on techniques, soft-tissue treatment, movement advice and exercises.

Every patient is different, which is why understanding your concerns, lifestyle and goals is an important part of the process.

Your Health. Your Goals. Your Movement.

At BacknMotion, we believe healthcare should be about you, your goals and what you want to get back to doing.

Dr. Carson’s education and training help him work with patients to better understand their concerns and explore appropriate options for improving movement and everyday function.

Chiropractic care is about more than adjustments. It’s about understanding the body, listening to the patient and helping them take steps toward their individual health goals.
